Dear Parents

It’s hard to believe we are into November already.

As this is the Tour of Southland week we also have had 4 seasons in 1 day weather. It was a great photo of our children in today’s paper and we look forward to seeing them tomorrow morning.

Also I am hearing great reports back from the Year 6 camp at Stewart Island. A big thanks to Mrs Lieshout for all her organisation and to the parents who were able to go and support her and the children.

Many thanks to the fair committee for all your work, we look forward to seeing all our families at the fair on Sunday.

Sunday Mass 10.30am

All children are expected to line up in the school foyer (in mufti) @

10.15 am this Sunday as we will go over to the church as a group.

All children will be attending mass not helping to set up for the fair.

Welcome

Welcome to Case Jordan who joined the children in Room 2 on Monday. We hope he enjoys his time at Sacred Heart.

Prayers ~ Our thoughts and prayers are with the Matthews family.

Term Dates

School will close on Thursday 11 December @ 12.30 pm and re-open for students on Wednesday 28 January 2015.

Catholic Schools Sport Tournament

Next Friday we will have six teams at this tournament at Verdon College. There has been a note sent home regarding this.

Year 6 High School Day

Good luck to our Year 6 children as they have their entrance days at their high schools tomorrow.

Enrolments

If you know of any new or prospective enrolments please get them to contact me for a visit to our school. We have had 3 plus years of 30+ children leaving at Year 6 and haven’t been replacing these numbers. This has had an effect on our staffing entitlements.

ERO Report

Here is a link to our ERO report. It is very complementary to our students, staff and community.

Well done to all.

FAITH FACTS

I invite Christians, everywhere, at this very moment, to a renewed personal encounter with Jesus Christ, or at least an openness to letting him encounter them; I ask all of you to do this unfailing each day. No one should think that this invitation is not meant for him or her, since “no one is excluded from the joy brought by the Lord”. The Lord does not disappoint those who take this risk; whenever we take a step towards Jesus, we come to realize that he is already there, waiting for us with open arms. (EG 3)

Room 2 Class Happenings

This past weekend held the feasts of All Saints and All Souls. The day before this, on Friday 31st October is Halloween. Halloween means ‘all Hallows Eve’, and it is a time to reflect on what happens when we die, and join the afterlife.

Halloween reminds us that if we confront our fear of death in small ways throughout our lives, we will be more willing to take that final step at the end of our earthly journey. Learning to laugh at fearsome costumes is one way to do that. We discover that death is just one more disguise. Halloween has the kind of super-abundance of treats that we might think of as a metaphor of God’s grace, free for the asking.
Room 1 and 2 celebrated Halloween with spooky costumes and trick or treating. We had witches, pirates, skeletons and many other spooky characters in our room.

Room 1 Class Happenings

Wow it is hard to believe that Term 4 has arrived. We have a super busy term planned with lots of fun and exciting days ahead.
Please make sure that your child has a water bottle and a school sun hat each day (hopefully the sun will come out for us).

This term so far we have been learning about money. Having the New World Little Shop checkout, food items and baskets have been a great success. The children have learnt the value of each coin and note, and have set money amounts on each of the food items to sell in the shop.

We have also started to learn about time, concentrating on times that show half past and o’clock on an analogue clock.
The children will be making their own clocks to take home on Friday, so please encourage them to tell you the time.

If your child has some basic facts cards at home can they please be sent to school, so I can mark them off and enable to move on to the next set.

For writing we have been adding our senses into our writing. The children have been adding some great describing words into their writing so the reader can see, hear, feel, taste, and smell what we do.

Room 1 needs 6 more shoeboxes, so we can do a pretty cool art activity that Mrs Williams has found, and would love to do. So if you have any spare shoeboxes at home, PLEASE send them to Room 1.

Tomorrow is Room 1 and 2s Halloween themed dress up day – I can’t wait to see everyone’s costume!

FAITH FACTS

Pope Francis invites us all to share the joy of God’s gift of the Gospel to others. The quote below is from the beginning pages of Apostolic
Exhortation:

Whenever our interior life becomes caught up in its own interests and concerns, there is no longer room for others, no place for the poor. God’s voice is no longer heard, the quiet joy of his love is no longer felt, and the desire to do good fades. (EG 2)
