Dear Parents

Faith Facts
Week 2: October 23 – 27 Communion of Saints

Pope Francis’s message for the 91st World Mission Day, “Mission at the Heart of the Christian Faith”.
Young people are the hope of mission. The person of Jesus Christ and the Good News he proclaimed continue to attract many young people. They seek ways to put themselves with courage and enthusiasm at the service of humanity. “There are many young people who offer their solidarity in the face of the evils of the world and engage in various forms of militancy and volunteering… How beautiful it is to see that young people are ‘street preachers’, joyfully bringing Jesus to every street, every town square and every corner of the earth!”

Labour Day – Labour Day commemorates the struggle for an eight-hour working day. New Zealand workers were among the first in the world to claim this right when, in 1840, the carpenter Samuel Parnell won an eight-hour day in Wellington. Labour Day was first celebrated in New Zealand on 28 October 1890

Sports Teams
For a small school we have a large number of children playing in the various sports competitions – touch, miniball, flipperball  and football. This is due mainly on the willingness of our parent community to act as managers, coaches, referrees and drivers. As I watched our teams at touch last night I was very pleased to see the support for our teams, this is duplicated at all such events. One of my beliefs after a long time as a teacher is that team sport is a great learning experience for all children in that it teaches them a number of relationship skills needed in society today.

Costs, which are due at the office now are: Touch $19, Basketball $45, Soccer $45.
We would appreciate prompt payment for these, as the the school have already paid these accounts.

Book Club – Issue  7 closes Thursday 26th October.
