26th July 2018

Dear Parents

Welcome back to school for a busy Term 3. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Keenan and Ultee families this week.
As you may be aware work began in the holidays on our upgrade. Rooms 5,6 & 7 and the corridor in that block will soon be closed off for work to begin. An alternate access way from Room 8&9 to the rest of the school is currently under way. The library will be closed till further notice and the books are being distributed around the classes. Reading Recovery has moved to the medical room and there is a bit more clutter in the junior corridor with extra shelves and cupboards. We look forward to seeing the new school taking shape in the months ahead.
This week we welcomed David Craze into Room 1. We hope David and his family enjoy their time with us at Sacred Heart.
Congratulations to Rose Umu-Sinel  –  Winner of week 1 Charism cross.
Faith Fact Week 1 – 23rd July.
23rd St Bridget
26th St Joachim and Anne – Jesus Grandparents

America was the first country in the world to celebrate Grandparents day. They celebrate on the 9 th of September. The UK celebrates grandparents in October here in New Zealand we do not celebrate grandparent’s day. The Feast of Joachim and Anne, Jesus’s grandparents, gives us a great opportunity to thank them for giving us Mary and a great day to think of our own grandparents too. It is nice to think of Jesus as having a grandma(sava) and grandad(sav).

Room 2 Class Happenings
100 Days at School
Wow!  Today is the 100th day at school this year.  Room 2 have been counting up the days since we started school in February

We have learnt lots of things about numbers by doing this.  We know the number that comes before and after a number and we can count to one hundred in twos, fives and tens.

We understand that if we make bundles of ten, we would have ten bundles to make one hundred. We need ten tens frames to show one hundred.  We know the place value of one hundred now.

Today we did some activities that required us to count to one hundred, like, how long it takes to skip to one hundred and how far we get if we take 100 steps.

We also had badminton training today.  We learnt how to stand to throw the shuttle cock.  We will have another training session next Tuesday.  Kelsy was the expert today and showed us how to do this.  Well done.

5th  July 2018

Dear Parents

Unfortunately there is a glitch and the photos cant be uploaded. I will send this out and update it once the site is repaired.

Thank you for all your support this term, any and all assistance has been much appreciated.

We farewell Odara to Wellington, Kees & Elise to Timaru and Abbie & Ethan to Salford. We will miss you all.

Building Upgrade
This will begin next week, with the power and data cables being re-laid. Once this is under way the majority of the concrete will be fenced off and we will be unable to access Rooms 5 – 7 and the corridor. It is a bit of a logistical nightmare but after waiting so long for this we will cope.
The Library will be closed till further notice and we are in the process of moving everything out of Rooms 5 – 7.

Term 3 Sports
Miss Smith has sent out notices for Term 3 sports. While we really encourage children to take part in these, can I ask parents to be sure the days and times suit. While we have children who genuinely have to withdraw, we are finding an increasing number who just decide they don’t want to continue. For the school, once you are registered for these sports, we are sent an invoice, which we are obliged to pay. Lately on many occasions, when payment hasn’t been settled by the child, we discover they haven’t been turning up to play.

Oyster Raffle
We have a large number of outstanding raffle cards that are yet to be returned so we have decided that we will change the draw date to next term. Please have all cards and money back by Thursday 26th July.

We have been offered the opportunity to sell kindling as a fundraiser. The bag pictured is $10 and there is a larger one for $15.
If you are interested please email or txt me with your order: principal@shsinv.school.nz or 0274918694.
