Dear Parents
It has been an interesting week with the first case of COVID-19 in Invercargill and a lot of uncertainty around how the border shutdown will affect our economy going forward. In the education system there has been a lot of discussion around the pros and cons of closing schools to help prevent the possible spread of the virus. At this point in time there has been no move to do this which I agree with.

Most schools have been discussing how to provide online or home based learning in the advent of school closures and I would ask ALL families to please complete this survey to give us some information about home networks. The link is below:

COVID-19 Update
Here is the latest information from the Ministry in Invercargill about COVID-19.

With so much information and misinformation swirling around about COVID-19, I wanted to share with you what will happen if we were to have a case in our school community. We have been planning for this and are in a position to respond quickly.

As soon as a case is confirmed in our immediate school community (eg. a student, staff member, or member of their household), the Medical Officer of Health and Ministry of Education will inform me about this, and we will work together to get quick and clear messaging out to you

  • If there was a case confirmed of someone in our school, we will likely be asked to close temporarily by the Medical Officer of Health. This will allow time for close contacts to be traced, appropriate testing to be undertaken, and a careful clean of the school to be undertaken.
  • If our school does need to close temporarily, we will have a plan in place to support student’s learning.

We know COVID-19 feels scary and of course people are concerned for the wellbeing of our children. Please be assured that with no case confirmed in our school, your children are safe here.

Good hygiene is a priority at our school, and we are reinforcing this regularly with all students and staff. We know that practicing good hygiene is still the best thing we can all do to prevent illness.

We are getting the most up to date advice and guidance so that we can confidently make informed decisions about the safety and wellbeing of our school community.

WEEK 8 16th – 20th March
3rd Week of Lent (Pray, Fast, Give)
17th St Patrick’s Day
19th St Joseph
The Gospel for the Third Week of Lent John 4:5-42
Jesus reveals himself to the Samaritan woman at the well.

In Jesus’ encounter with the Samaritan woman, we learn about the fullness of God’s mercy. The woman is a Samaritan, and Samaritans were people with whom observant Jews had no contact. She is also an outcast in Samaritan society. Yet Jesus reaches out to this woman and brings her hope and a new knowledge God.

Let’s pray for the outcast in our society. May we and others have the courage to reach out to them and like Jesus bring mercy and hope.

WEEK 9 23rd – 27th March
4th
Week of Lent (Pray, Fast, Give)
25th The Annunciation of Jesus
The Gospel for the Fourth Week of Lent John 9:1-41

Jesus heals the man born blind and reveals himself to him as the Son of Man.

Young people today are often bombarded with so much stimulation that it is easy for them to miss what is right in front of their eyes. This Sunday’s Gospel reminds us that Jesus helps us see what is truly important in life.

Congratulations to Chloe Murdoch who received our Charism for Week 7 and the children who received certificates.

WEEK 7 9th – 13th March

Week of Lent (Pray, Fast, Give)
13th March Anniversary of Pope Francis election 2013

Sundays first reading was Genesis 12:1-4, The Call of Abram
The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.

Pope Francis 2019 The courage to take a risk for God’s promise
“The Lord’s call … it is the loving initiative whereby God encounters us and invites us to be part of a great undertaking.  … Every vocation is a summons not to stand on the shore, nets in hand, but to follow Jesus on the path he has marked out for us, for our own happiness and for the good of those around us.”

We give thanks God for all those who have chosen the vacation of parenthood.  May you always be a blessing to your family and to others.  May you remember you have been and are blessed.

Congratulations to our recent Charism award winners and all the children who received certificates.
