25th July 2019

Dear Parents
Welcome back to Term 3. It promises to be very busy with the school production, polyfest and the school building update nearing completion. I sent an email home this week saying there may be a Teachers Only Day on Wednesday 21/8. This will not happen now; while the building may be ready the site works will not be completed on time nor will the  Compliance Certificate be issued. I will let you know new dates as soon as I have the information.

Welcome to Jacob Perkins, Marley Allison, Willa Sirgurdsson, Cameron and Jayden Smit and Thomas Boath. We are delighted they have joined us at Sacred Heart School and hope they enjoy their time with us.

Faith Facts
Term 3 2019 – WEEK 1 22nd – 26th July
22nd St Mary Magdalene
25th St James the Apostle
26th St Joachim and Anne

On the 22nd July 1987 Lotto goes on sale for the first time in New Zealand. Many people pray to win the lotto. Better to follow Jesus example of loving your neighbour and yourself. Then make a realistic budget for your family and stick to it. In addition, seek wise advice concerning your finances. Buy a ticket only if you can afford the loss. And know God loves you and wants to help you face financial problems realistically.

WEEK 2   29th July – 2ndAugust
29th St Martha
31st St Ignatius of Loyola
St Alphonsus of Liguori
3rd St Dominic

Thirteen of our schools and colleges in the Dunedin Diocese have a commitment to the Dominican heritage, charism or history. Ten Dominican nuns arrived in Dunedin In February 1871. Within a few days of their arrival they established Dunedin’s first Catholic high school for girls. Lets celebrate these amazing women and their gift of faith and Education to us on the 3rd of August.

Scholastic Bookclub Issue 5 closes Friday 2nd August.

Carpark Repair
Thank you to Alice Monaghan who has offered to fill in the holes in the carpark. This will be completed as soon as weather allows.

Sacred Heart Feast Day
Thank you to all the children who brought a grocery item for the food back last term. We received a lovely letter from the Southland Food bank thanking us. They were thrilled with your efforts.

Congratulations to Cruz Wanakore who received the Charism Award this week, and to all the children who received certificates.

Room 2 Class Happenings
For our end of term 2 celebration we had a pyjama day, were we built huts together and had a shared lunch together.  It was so much fun!

Some photos from our end of term disco!

Seeing Science first hand!  We were lucky to be given some liquid nitrogen from Mitchell’s Mum.  Mr Forde showed us what happens to a flower when put into the liquid.  It was pretty cool to watch the smoke and hear the crackling sound.
