Dear Parents
Welcome to Patrick Sales, Zoey McElwain and Orla O’Reilly who joined the children in Room 1 recently. We hope they enjoy their time at Sacred Heart.
A reminder that we will all be going to Winton to celebrate Mercy Day on Monday. An email was sent home will all the details.

Class Naming Competition
Thank you to all the families that entered the class naming competition. The winning names were supplied by Eli Taula and his family. They reflected the Catholic values and virtues in our school with an emphasis on the journey the children make during their time with us.

13th St John of Chrysostom
Social Justice Week: FAIR, YOU SAY? Seeking fairness in an unfair world.

During Social Justice Week this year (September 8-14), we invite all our school communities throughout Aotearoa to focus on the issue of fairness. In our world, which is tainted by unfairness, we are challenged to open our eyes to what is not just, and to be inspired to be instruments that will bring fairness and justice in our homes, schools, communities and the wider world.

WEEK 9 16th – 20th September

16th St’s Cornelius and Cyprian
20th Sts Andrew Kim Tae-gon
21st St Matthew

In the third century St Cornelius was a Pope who was arrested and Banished. Roman emperor Decius thought that if Christian lost their leader the religion would die. There are now over 2 billion Christian in the world today and more than 50% of those are Catholic. Unfortunately like in the 3rd Century Christians today are still persecuted and amongst the most persecuted people in the world.

Christians are persecuted in more that 50 countries and are harassed in up to 144. Please pray for all people of faith and help stop the intolerance.

Scholastic Bookclub – Issue 6 closes on Wednesday 18th September.

Congratulations to our latest Charism Award winners, Laura Hamilton and William Baynes, and all the children who received certificates.

Last week we attended ‘Connecting Communities’ at the ILT Stadium organised by Sports Southland to promote Health and Physical education. The students were able to choose from a range of fun activities.

We have also been learning and up-skilling our Te Reo in class celebrating Maori Language week. We have read stories and practiced our pronunciation of words. We have also recreated the stories using iMovie.
